dōTERRA

dōTERRA International is a  wellness company in the global aromatherapy and essential oils market. It sources, tests, manufactures, and distributes essential oils and essential oil products to over 10 million customers. Founded in 2008 in Utah, the privately held company has more than 4,000 employees worldwide.

The Irish advantage

When dōTERRA was scouting places to expand its manufacturing operations outside the USA, it evaluated several European countries before finding the right location after company leaders toured Ireland. Cork, a hub for tech startups and international expansion, became the city of choice for dōTERRA’s overseas bottling facility.

Ireland offers several advantages as a base for American companies in the European market. Ireland’s fast-track ‘trusted partner’ employment permit system, was a major attraction to dōTERRA and meant work permit applications for the company’s non-EU nationals could be processed within 10 working days.

The Irish operation manufactures and distributes doTERRA products to the European marketplace, as well as providing increased capacity to serve other international markets, including the Middle East and Africa. dōTERRA invested more than €10 million in the 95,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility, which consists of cleanrooms, bottling rooms, office space, a lab, cold storage and warehousing.

As of 2023, the facility employs 65 highly skilled and trained staff and produces up to 10,000,000 bottles of essential oil each year. As production increases, the company will grow its staff in quality control, supply chain management, finance, legal, and HR, with the ability to increase to 100 team members over time.

Green gain: how Ireland helps meet sustainability goals

dōTERRA’s Irish operations allow it to achieve more efficient sourcing and logistics while reducing its impact on the environment. The company sources many of its essential oils from Europe, and its Irish facility allows the company to greatly reduce its carbon footprint by ensuring that oils intended for European customers never leave Europe.
